And not only do we codify the Argentine system (yes they have an extremely strict, somewhat fascist system for drinking mate) for mate consumption, but Fer sings about the “pena” of when his mate ends… and me about when my latte is over. Then come ruminations on the culture of customer service not only in Argentina but in the US and other countries. Top 5 questions asked by tourists as told by The Bitch Tours’ Diva… and a hard rock finale!

A few thoughts about mate: I would translate ‘lavado’ as ‘cashed.’ Casheado? Calleado?
Also, I heard a myth that copper tip (what original bombillas were made of–now it’s some kind of cheap metal alloy that changes the color) kept bacteria from being transferred to other drinkers. So I investigated, went to PubMed and apparently there is a degree of microbe protection when using silver or copper metals, and some hospitals are even experimenting with coating door handles, sink knobs, etc with these metals.
Also also, I was suprised there was no mention of ‘falta yerba, que hacemos?’ (there’s no yerba, what shall we do?) as a way to ask someone if they want to sleep with you
That’s great info…although I must say, as a Mate Tea Party supporter, that not worrying about germs is part of the mate ceremony…
We’ll get on the “Yerba no hay” line, in future installments of the Laws of Mate!!
